El Chupacabras, the Goatsuckers

By Joyce Murphy

Since December, 1994, the Caribbean Island of Puerto Rico has been the site of a consistent wave of UFO sightings, as well as numerous apparitions of a weird creature which has killed livestock and been dubbed the Chupacabras, the Goatsucker, by the sensation seeking media.

The Chupa phenomenon continues in full splendor, I am told by author Scott Corrales, but the interest of the average man on the street in Puerto Rico in the subject has run its course - and the news media is really not reporting much on the subject nowadays. But to persons living on the edges of towns and villages who must deal with this creature and its havoc on a daily basis and who must suffer the loss of their small animals and birds to its appetite, the phenomenon is wrecking their lives. The lady on the left has lost countless chickens and rabbits to the creature - chickens and rabbits she planned to have on her table to feed her family. She has not only suffered this financial loss but is so frightened by the prospect of meeting up with this terrifying vampire monster that she does not leave the door of her house without her weapon of protection - a giant machete!

One interesting feature of the way the chupacabras kills its victims is that a long telescopic device seems to protrude from one of its fangs and this makes the perfectly round puncture wound in the victim through which a type of euthanasia technique is used. Whatever the chupa does in the instant before sucking the body totally devoid of blood prevents the victim from suffering. Something is apparently injected into the victim’s body and possibly this unknown substance prevents rigor mortis which the lack of is a characteristic of the victim’s dead body. The chupa does not exert any pressure or crushing force on its victims as happens with other predators. There is the perfectly round hole wound penetrating into any area of the victim necessary - through bone, muscle, tissue and whatever necessary to penetrate at least 3 to 4 inches cauterizing the wound as it goes into the victim’s body. Even sections of organs are then sucked out through this penetration leaving no natural inflammatory process in the dead animal. The perfectly round wounds have been found in different areas of the animal’s body - not all in the neck area.

Many residents of Puerto Rico have actually seen this creature and give a fairly consistent description. It is reportedly a cross between the Grey alien humanoid - because of the shape of its head and eyes - with the body of a bipedal, erect dinosaur, but with no tail. Two elongated red eyes have been reported, together with small holes in the nostril area, a small slit like mouth with fang type teeth protruding upwards and downwards from the jaw.

Some witnesses have seen small pointed ears and most report that it has strong course hair all over its body. The hair seems to have the capability to change colors at will - almost like a chameleon. The creature has two small arms with a three fingered clawed hand and two strong hind legs, again with three claws. The thigh muscles are very large and appear to be very strong appearing to enable it to run quickly and “leap” over trees. It has quill like appendages running down from its back with what seem to be fleshy membranes that change color from blue to green, red to purple, etc. Some people report that the creature can actually fly with no means of guidance or propulsion - only the breeze! At least one witness has reported to us during interrogation that she saw the creature levitating slightly above the ground while traveling down a village street rather than actually walking to make its way. It has been reported by reliable sources that at least two of these vampire like creatures have been captured by Government officials - by both Puerto Rican officials and U.S. Government. One of the creatures supposedly was captured in the town of San Lorenzo in the east center of the island and another was captured in the El Yunque rainforest on the northeast side. Both were seen and were reported to be alive at the time of capture. Witnesses believe these chupas were taken to the United States.

Sightings of the chupacabras are often associated with sightings of luminous oval and pyramidal shaped UFOs. Sometimes the UFOs are sighted near the mutilated victims of the victims. On November 18, 1995, a luminous disc some 40 ft. in diameter with a row of dark windows around its center rim positioned itself over the anntenae of a radio station located in the town of Barranquitas, in the center of the island. A local researher reports in an article in Evidencia Ovni that the station’s electronic equipment went crazy, dials just went wild. Incredibly an obsolete piece of equipment from 1957 stored at the station turned itself on. More astonishingly was the fact that the apparatus was not plugged into any power source. This incident was discussed in the media, as many residents in that area saw the UFO as it hovered over the station. Earlier that month a woman also observed the creature in Canovanas, It jumped over her car and she saw it enter a round luminous object overhead. Puerto Rico has been the site for much experimentation by the United States on the island’s population and territory for decades. Examples of this can be found in the experimentation of Talidomida and anti conceptive drugs on PR women which caused the birth of many malformed children in the 1950s, as reported in the Evidencia Ovni article. The lethal agent orange and other dioxine based chemical agents were tested in several places on the island, as well as gamma radiations tests in the forest. Could someone now be experimenting with new and advanced genetic products on the island?

A Beyond Boundaries expedition led by Marc Davenport over a year ago obtained a hair sample from a fence near the place where a chupacabras had been seen resting - but also a fence that many other animals such as dogs, goats, and sheep had also rubbed its hair on. A Japanese journalist team took one of the hairs, had it tested, and the report was that it matched no known earth animal but that if the nearest likeness had to be named it would be that of the common wolf - which Puerto Rico knows not. But without DNA testing nothing can be definitely reported on the nature of this particular hair. It was reported that samples of blood allegedly taken from one of the chupas discovered after it jumped over a fence and tripped are being tested by a medical specialist in the U.S. Preliminary results indicate characteristic like human type A with Rh factor not conclusive. Genetic analysis shows that the traces ratio of magnesium, phosphorous, calcium and potassium are incompatible being much to high with those of normal human blood. The preliminary testing cannot place the sample with any earth organism - the same description from the simple testing the Japanese had done on our hair sample.

Scott Corrales faxed us a translated recent newspaper article from Puerto Rico to give us a little update on the creature’s activities on the island even though the news media seems now to have a lack of interest in the more mundane events regarding the chupacabras.

More Chupacabras Activity? by Jose Valdez The elusive Chupacabras staged a return to the community of Dorado on March 22, 1997. Eighteen hens, four geese and ten cock fighting roosters were the latest victims of the unknown predator, which visited the La Poza sector of Dorado’s Barrio Higuillar after having reportedly perpetrated a series of mutilations in distant Venezuela.

Police sergeant Rafael Rivera Marcano inspected the fighting cocks which miraculously survived the onslaught and delivered the unfortunate ones to the Department of Agriculture, which has promised to analyze the carcasses.

Our friend, Scott Corrales, has written the only book available on the subject of the Chupacabras. Marc Davenport and Greenleaf Publishing are now editing the book and it will be available from them in May of 1997, later this month. It is a quality paperback 6” x 9” with 200 pages and a photo section. The book is actually a chronicle of fascinating unexplained mysteries of which the main focus is the Chupacabras.
